Architect of the cathedral of Algiers (Algeria)

Gustave Désiré Bournichon was born on March 30, 1818 in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique). He is an architect, member of the Central Society of French Architects from 1867, author of the modification of the hotel Talhouët-Roy (rue du faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris), of the construction of the building of the CIC, 66 rue de la Chaussée d'Antin (Paris, 1861) but especially of the transformation of the mosque Ketchoua in Algiers, in cathedral Saint-Philippe (December 1832) with the addition of 3 bells of 50, 80 and 120kg. He is also a painter and watercolorist: pupil of Lebas at the School of Fine Arts (admitted in 1838), he exhibited at the Salon several drawings and watercolors showing views of Algiers, from 1863. He lived at 15 rue de Londres in Paris. He died in Paris in 1878.
