When it was established in 1955, its primary goal was to serve the needs of the Muslim Community in Schauderville and Korsten. A few Madaris were founded, but occasionally in improvised spaces like a person's dining room, a garage, or an outbuilding. The Tuckshop at Highfield Road, Schauderville, presented lectures for adults and the Cheer Fund Treat for kids, an annual event hosted by the SMA with funding provided by the Mayor's Christmas Cheer Fund. Surprisingly, the SMA also served as the Papenskuil Cemetery's curator and only renounced that responsibility in the 1970s.
