The name Hamoudi Ahmed holds an important place in Djibouti's history. Because the mosque he built, also known as the Hamoudi Mosque, is one of Djibouti's landmarks, this name appears in travel guides. Hamoudi Ahmed was a wealthy businessman who was born in Yemen and a member of the Yemeni diaspora that established in colonial Djibouti. Nevertheless, little is known about how his riches was lost, despite the fact that his name is well-known. This opacity stands in contrast to other prosperous Yemeni immigrants who arrived during the colonial era.
