The Kauman Great Mosque was built by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I with Kyai Faqih Ibrahim Diponingrat and Kyai Wiryokusumo as architects. This mosque was built on Sunday Wage, May 29, 1773, and uses the Grand Mosque's architectural style, inheriting the Demak Mosque's type.
The characteristic of this mosque is the existence of four main pillars, known as saka guru, with a roof shaped like a teplok symbol. Tajug symbol Telok is a three-tiered roof. Currently, the Kauman Great Mosque is used for daily worship activities by the Kauman community.
